The hose cuff screws onto the end of a standard hose, which turns on as soon as you plug it into the wall inlet.

It will fit onto any standard central vacuum hose.

With the metal band all the way around the end that goes into the wall you don’t have to line up the end of the hose to get your vacuum to start up. Just push it into the wall and your vacuum will start up.

The hose cuff is metal and rubber,  more robust that a lot of others on the market.
